‘Know Your Lemons’ Breast Cancer Photo Goes Viral

If you spend any time on social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen the photo of 12 lemons in an egg carton. Look closely, because that picture could save your life.

Families share their experience with breast cancer in this moving video.

The photo uses lemons to depict some of the physical changes that could indicate a person has breast cancer. Breast cancer patient, Erin Smith Chieze, was fed up with some of the Facebook memes dedicated to breast cancer. She felt they didn’t offer any practical help to women, so she posted the picture of the lemons. Thankfully others agreed and the post has now gone viral. Find out more about this story here.

Knowing what to look for is crucial and this photo from the Worldwide Breast Cancer organization’s “Know Your Lemons” campaign does this in a way that people can relate to. The campaign also points out that lumps found in breasts are often immovable and feel a little bit like a lemon seed.
