5. Christina Applegate
Christina Applegate was a teenager star who grew into a famous actress, and also the daughter of a breast cancer survivor. Therefore, she was very aware of what the disease was when she was diagnosed with it in April 2008, at the age of 36. She had undertaken regular mammograms for six years and a biopsy to her left breast tissue confirmed the diagnosis. While being treated with six weeks of radiation therapy, Christina Applegate also discovered she had the BRCA gene.
To prevent any other complications, Christina Applegate decided to undergo a bilateral mastectomy and started spreading her story of survival. She considers her health as a blessing.”I am a 36-year-old person with breast cancer, and not many people know that that happens to women my age or women in their 20s,” she said. “This is my opportunity now to go out and fight as hard as I can for early detection.”
